Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will officially make their Pokémon GO debut during Pokémon GO Fest 2026.
This marks the arrival of one of the most anticipated Mega Evolutions in the game, alongside major updates to the Mega Evolution system.
Players will now be able to Mega Evolve previously caught Mewtwo into either:
Both forms require their own unique Mega Energy, which will be available for the first time through Super Mega Raids during GO Fest 2026.
As a launch bonus, Mewtwo caught from Super Mega Raids during Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global will have at least one Mega Level already unlocked, allowing Trainers to Mega Evolve without paying the initial energy cost.
Mega Mewtwo’s debut also introduces several updates to Mega Evolution:
Players can now use extra Mega Energy to level up Mega Levels faster without waiting for the daily cooldown.
For Pokémon with multiple Mega Evolutions, each form will now track Mega Level progress separately.
This means progress for Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will be tracked independently.
Trainers attending in-person GO Fest events in:
will receive early access opportunities through special Timed Research.
Completing research challenges will allow players to encounter either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y with the first Mega Level already unlocked.

Mega Mewtwo Y raids: Psystrike
Ticket holders at in-person events can catch Mewtwo with both featured attacks.
During park sessions at in-person GO Fest events, Trainers will be able to participate in large-scale Super Mega Raids against Mega Mewtwo.
These battles are designed for massive participation, allowing large groups to challenge Mega Mewtwo together.
